California police dog accidentally inhales meth

Balu is no meth head! It just looked that way for a minute...

Balu is no meth head. But he sure looks like he enjoys his job. Look at that happy smile. That is no meth smile.

When Balu, a handsome, straight-laced police dog for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, went to work yesterday, he had no idea how close he would come to becoming a meth head. According to KTLA, the 4 1/2-year-old German shepherd snorted up a toxic amount of methamphetamine during a drug search. From what we hear on the street-dog scene, if the experience is pleasurable enough, addiction to meth can happen in just one use. Fortunately for Balu, the experience was far from pleasant. Unfortunately for Balu, this meant drug-induced convulsions.

His partner, senior Deputy Dean Worthy (don’t you just love that name for a dog-loving law enforcer?), rushed Balu to the vet’s, where the dog received emergency care. Balu is expected to be fine, although we wonder if he will think twice before inhaling next time.

Good boy, Balu.
